Tomato Pulao

Ingredients needed for Tomato Pulao
3-4  Tomatoes cut in to small pieces
500 grams Raw  Rice
1/2 cup chopped coriander leaves
6 Green Chillies ( as per taste )
8 Garlic flakes
1cup chopped onions
1 tsp Chilli Powder
2 tsps Coriander Powder
1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
1 tbsp Oil
2" piece Cinnamon
2-3 Cardamom
4 Cloves
2 Bay leaves

How to prepare Tomato Pulao?
Wash and soak rice for at least half an hour.
Grind green chillies, coriander leaves, ginger, garlic  and half of the chopped onions to a smooth paste. Keep aside.
Heat oil in a wide veesel / pressure pan and splutter the garam masala.
Add chopped onion to the pan and saute till it becomes golden brown in colour.
Add the ground masala paste  and the chopped tomatoes, saute till the tomatoes turn soft and pulpy.
Add rice, mix well with the masala. Add enough water ( two cups water for one cup of  rice ).
As it starts boiling , simmer  and cover until cooked. If you are using a pressure pan, simmer for 5 minutes after the first whistle.
Remove and mix well.
Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with raita and pickles.

Note :
If you are using Basmati rice the ratio for the water and rice will be 3:2, that is 3 cups of water for 2 cups of soaked and drained rice.
If you are using raw rice the ratio for the water and the rice will be 2:1 that is 2 cups of water for 1 cup of soaked and drained rice.
